ALP recruits graduate in Herat Province

HERAT PROVINCE, Afghanistan – The 9th Special Operation Kandak hosted a graduation ceremony for more than 100 Afghan Local Police (ALP) recruits at Herat City, Herat province, Aug. 6.

The Herat City Regional Training Center’s (RTC) reputation for excellence attracted new recruits who were among the members of this latest graduating class.

Deputy RTC Commander, Col. Hekmetullah, emphasized the importance and relevance of their training.

The Afghan instructors taught fundamentals of marksmanship, patrol techniques, basic first aid, checkpoint operation, and counter improvise explosive device training. Trainers also stressed the ALP’s major role in preventing insurgent activity in their respective villages.

“The hardest work remains in front of you,” said Col. Hekmetullah. “You will have to return to your villages and confront criminals and insurgents with no honor.”

The Herat RTC sets the standard for Afghan training - Afghan led, Afghan ran, and a model setting the example for other ALP programs across Afghanistan.

Afghan Local Police compliment counterinsurgency efforts by assisting and supporting rural areas with limited Afghan National Security Forces presence, enabling conditions for improved security, governance and development.
