JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J. -- U.S. Army Capt. Jonathan Court, chaplain, from the 77th Sustainment Brigade, conducted services yesterday in the Soldiers’ Chapel here to provide spiritual support for soldiers training in Operation Sustainment Warrior 2013.
OSW will train approximately 600 Army Reserve soldiers in live, virtual, and constructive exercises to sustain their warrior skills.
The chaplain’s service was provided for soldiers who wished to attend, allowing a moments relief from the rigorous training schedule.
“A soldier’s down time is a chaplain’s up time,” said Court, a native of Anderson, Calif.
Each of the five training companies in OSW have an assigned chaplain. Army chaplains make use of a soldier’s downtime to build up soldiers from within. Soldiers, who are here for several days, can find friendly counsel for personal and family issues that could impact their mission.
“OSW soldiers being away from home and family doesn’t stop life’s stressors; it adds to them,” said Court.
The focus of OSW chaplains is to provide soldiers with family issue support, religious services, and bible study.
“Soldiers that are emotionally and spiritually strong are ready soldiers,” said Court.
Army chaplains are scheduled to conduct one more Sunday service during OSW.
