CHEYENNE, Wyo. – Sailors from Navy Operational Support Center Cheyenne, located on F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Wyo. participated in the 117th celebration of Cheyenne Frontier Days, July 23.

NOSC Cheyenne sailors marched alongside their comrades; sailors from USS Wyoming (SSBN 742), soldiers and airmen in the Cheyenne Frontier Days Parade that starts at the state Capitol and winds through downtown Cheyenne passing the historic train depot.

“It is a privilege to march along our brothers and sisters in arms and represent the Navy in the great state of Wyoming and Cheyenne, the capital city,” said Lt. Cmdr. Chad “Coach” Tidwell, NOSC Cheyenne commanding officer. When the spectators saw the Navy sailors walk by in their summer white uniforms, they clapped in unison and cheered, “Go Navy!”

Cheyenne is primarily an Air Force town and most people are not aware of the Navy’s presence in Cheyenne. NOSC Cheyenne has a full-time support staff that serves Navy Reserve sailors in the state of Wyoming, Northern Colorado and Western Nebraska. There are approximately 90 sailors affiliated with NOSC Cheyenne.

NOSC Cheyenne also hosted a barbecue picnic to honor the visiting sailors from USS Wyoming (SSBN 742). Tidwell invited his newest neighbor on F. E. Warren Air Force base, Col. Carl Jones, 90th Missile Wing vice commander, and his family to the picnic.

“It is a pleasure to have Colonel Jones and his family. We work with them in our capacity in the military but we are also neighbors on the base.“

Jones, who moved here with his family July 8, was glad to meet other military members and their families.

“It was very nice of Coach to invite me to this picnic. I wouldn’t have missed it for anything,” said Jones. “It is important to us to be good neighbors to our shipmates. It is nice to have a Navy presence on the base. The base takes care of all military members, doesn’t matter your affiliation. It is important for my family to meet other military families. We may not be in the same service, but they are all military kids, they are all military spouses. It is nice to build a community together.”

Thus, the 117th celebration of Cheyenne Frontier Days, the “granddaddy of them all” as their motto states, brought together military members and citizens to celebrate American heritage and honor the military in the heartland of America.
