BELLOWS AIR FORCE STATION, Hawaii - Nearly 300 Hawaii National Guard soldiers and airmen recently took a day to develop the noncommissioned officer corp at the inaugural joint NCO conference themed "Back to the Basics," at the Hawaii National Guard Regional Training Institute in Bellows Air Force Station.

The conference included presentations from the senior enlisted members from Hawaii, Command Chief Master Sgt. Robert Lee, and Command Sgt. Maj. Ronald Oshiba, and a key-note address from the recently retired senior enlisted leader of the National Guard Chief Master Sgt. Denise M. Jelinski-Hall. Her address focused on the importance of hard work, determination, and faith as she walked the noncommissioned officers thorough the ups and downs of her Air Force career.

"The New NCO is a very important resource to develop for the U.S. military and the National Guard. It is important to ensure that they know the programs that are available to them to help shape their careers. I am very encouraged to see Hawaii take this Innovative approach in force development," said Chief Master Sgt. Denise M. Jelinski-Hall.

After a day full of presentations and a resource fair, the noncommissioned officers had to opportunity to question six senior noncommissioned officers from the Army and Air sides that served to reinforce the messaging from throughout the day. The day was closed out with address from the Soldier and Airman of the Year, who spoke briefly about their perspective on the NCO Corp and how to be the best soldier and airmen for the National Guard.

The overall sentiment at the end of the day was that the conference was successful and, that it is the start of something great that will continue to grow in scope.
