CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Headquarters and Support Battalion Marines and their families spend the cloudless, sunny day letting loose and enjoying Family Fun Day at the Goette Field aboard Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune June 13.

Hundreds of Marines brought their children along to enjoy barbeque, funnel cakes, horse rides, a petting zoo, dunk tanks, sumo wrestling, multiple inflatable attractions, face painting and rock climbing.

“Today’s been fun for my family and I,” said Sgt. Giovanny Fontanez, a Marine with the Distribution Management Office. “It’s good seeing the Marines I see every day let loose. It’s a different perspective from seeing them at work.”

Headquarters and Support Battalion, base staff, and family members. The Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. David G. Bardolf also attended.

“It allows us to service our Marines and families who service us,” he said. “Being able to bring families together in this type of environment is amazing.”

The families enjoyed the activities offered. The children flocked to the dunk tank and the bouncy houses. A clown at the event making balloon creations for the children. Food and drinks were offered to anyone attending.

“I’ve had fun today,” said Melissa Fontanez, the wife of Giovanny Fontanez. “I know our son is having an amazing time. It’s a great, friendly environment.”

“Today just sums up the best two years of my life,” said Bardolf. “Being that I’m changing command here in about a week, I’m trying to cherish every moment with this battalion. I’m having a load of fun today, and I hope everyone here does too.”

The unit camaraderie seemed to overflow as the Headquarters and Support Battalion Marines and their families spent hours laughing and having fun.
