MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE N.C. (June 27, 2012) – Lieutenant Colonel Robert Plevell relinquished command of Marine Special Operations Combat Support Battalion (MSOCSB), U.S. Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) to Lt. Col. Brian Rideout during a Change of Command ceremony in front of the MARSOC Headquarters at Stone Bay on Thursday, June 27, 2013.
Under Plevell’s tenure, the battalion changed from Intelligence Battalion to Combat Support Battalion. Under the new role, MSOCSB began incorporating new capabilities. To include operational logistics, intelligence, support with multi-purpose canines, fire control support teams, and communications support.
The mission of MSOCSB is to provide general and combat support to Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command; and to train, equip, organize, and provide specially qualified combat support capabilities to Marine Special Operations Forces deploying worldwide in the execution of special operations.
The MSOCSB increases MARSOC’s ability to deploy fully-enabled SOF. As a result, MARSOC forces are capable of conducting widely distributed special operations in austere environments in whatever clime and place we are called upon.
After seven years in its existence, MARSOC continues to remain agile and provide highly skilled, strong, disciplined capable and mentally agile multidimensional operators to the battlefields of the future.
