DORAL, Fla. - Brigadier General W. Blake Crowe is Deputy Commander Marine Forces Command; and Commander, Marine Corps Forces South.

Prior to his current assignment he served as the the Deputy Commander, United States Forces, Japan.

His first General Officer assignment was to the Office of the Secretary of Defense where he served as Principal Director, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and Southeast Asia, Asian and Pacific Security Affairs.

Brigadier General Crowe graduated from Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, North Carolina, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History & Law Enforcement in 1980. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in August 1981 following completion of Officer Candidate School.

Operational tours include: Rifle and 81mm Mortar Platoon Commander and Assistant Operations Officer 2d Battalion, 4th Marines (1982-1984). Platoon Commander, 3d Reconnaissance Battalion (1984-1985). Operations Officer, Assistant Operations Officer and Company Commander, 3d Battalion, 9th Marines (1989-1991). Direct Action (DA) Platoon Commander and Executive Officer, 1st Force Reconnaissance Company (1991-1993). Commanding Officer, 3d Battalion, 4th Marines (2000-2002). Commanding Officer, 7th Marine Regiment (2005-2007).

Other tours include: Legal Officer and Headquarters Company Commander, Marine Security Guard Battalion (1985-1988). Counterterrorism and Joint Training Officer, J3 USPACOM (1993-1996). Head, Special Duty Assignment Unit, and Head, Enlisted Retention and Counseling Section, Manpower Management Division Enlisted Assignments (1996-2000). Assistant Chief/Staff G3, Training and Education Command (2003-2005). Commanding Officer, Marine Barracks 8th & I (2007-2008).

Operational history information: Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm as Rifle Company Commander (1990-1991). Southwest Asia Cease Fire Campaign as DA Platoon Commander assigned to 13th MEU (SOC) (1992). Operation Iraqi Freedom 05-07 Western Al Anbar, Iraq as Commanding Officer, Regimental Combat Team 7 (2006-2007). Operation Tomodachi, “Great East Japan Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear Consequence Response” as Deputy Commander, USFJ (2011).

In addition to The Basic School, Brigadier General Crowe’s professional education includes United States Marine Corps Amphibious Warfare School, United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College (non-resident).

He was a CMC Executive Fellow, RAND Corporation, Santa Monica, California.
