    10th Regional Support Group

KADENA AIR BASE, Okinawa, Japan – Senior enlisted noncommissioned officers and officers of the 10th Regional Support Group assembled for a leader’s professional development session May 8 at Kadena’s Keystone Theater to go over military law procedures.

Command Sgt. Maj. Shelton R. Williamson, command sergeant major for the 10th RSG, said the unit selected Article 15 and the Uniform Code of Military Justice as the main topic of discussion to clear up any misconceptions within the unit.

“We want our leaders to have a clear understanding how the Article 15 process is conducted,” said Williamson. “This LDP will educate, inspire and empower our leaders on that process.”

To add realism to the session the 10th RSG Judge Advocate provided the audience with a short vignette of a soldier going through the Article 15 process for driving under the influence.
Capt. Katherine Banning, chief of military justice for the 10th RSG, said it was important for everyone to see an actual proceeding.

“An Article 15 is rarely mishandled by 10th RSG units,” added Banning. “The bigger issue is that soldiers and junior leaders do not understand the process and this training helps leaders serve as sources of knowledge for their soldiers.”

Banning added there is a key avenue of approach for all leaders on island.

“Leaders should be familiar with the rules that govern an Article 15 of the UCMJ, part five of the manual for courts martial, and Chapter 3 of Army Regulation 27-10,” said Banning.
