McConnell Reserve unit conducts IRR muster

931st Air Refueling Wing

MCCONNELL AIR FORCE BASE, Kan. -- The 931st Air Refueling group conducted an Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) muster here today as part of complying with 10 U.S.C Section 12319, which requires the services to screen members to verify and update personal and medical data. The program ensures the Air Reserve Personnel Center is able to contact members in the event of mobilization.

The IRR consists of Ready Reservists who are not assigned to a selected Reserve position and who are not participating for retirement points. Members of the IRR have completed prior service tours either with the active or Reserve component and have remaining time on their military service obligation. IRR members are subject to recall to military service.

Today's muster was targeted at members of the IRR who live within a 150 mile radius of McConnell Air Force Base. More than 20 IRR members attended the muster, during which they received information on veterans' benefits, updated their medical data, and were given the opportunity to visit with Air Force Reserve recruiters and discuss the possibility of continuing their military careers as a participating member of the Air Force Reserve.

Col. Mark S. Larson, commander of the 931st Air Refueling Group, greeted the IRR members at the start of the event.

"We have many opportunities available right now for those of you who might be interested in becoming a member the 931st," said Larson. "Today is a chance for you to get some good information as you consider continuing your career as a member of our unit."

Senior Master Sgt. Jennifer Tucker, assistant senior recruiter for Tinker and McConnell AFB, said the muster is a great tool for bringing skilled members directly into the 931st.

"These are fully-qualified, experienced members who can start contributing from day one," she said. "Bringing these individuals into the unit serves as a tremendous benefit."

Haley Domingos, an IRR member who had previously served with the Air National Guard, said she was very interested in continuing her career as a member of the 931st.

"I really liked being in the Air Force," said Domingos. "I miss it and I really just want to be a part of it again."

Tucker said that from a recruiting standpoint, she considered the event to be a success.

"Considering how many individuals attended, I think it went extremely well," she said. "Even if the IRR members don't join up right away, hopefully a seed was planted and they may consider joining the Air Force Reserve at some point."
