FORT BLISS, Texas - As the old saying goes “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure,” families residing on post and the surrounding areas participated in a post-wide yard sale April 20.
Residents from Fort Bliss, Beaumont, Biggs, Logan Heights, Hayes and the 801 Housing communities displayed their unwanted items in their front yards in hopes of them finding a new home.
The sales kicked off at 8 a.m. and ended at 2 p.m. giving bargain hunters a chance walk from yard to yard searching for bargains on a beautiful spring day.
“The weather is perfect,” said Sandra Perry, a resident at Logan Heights. “I am glad we don’t have the winds from a few days ago.”
The yard sales gave families an opportunity to make a little money by selling items at garage sale prices without formal permission.
“It is amazing how much 'stuff' you can accumulate in just a couple of years,” said Sandra Perry jokingly. “I am trying to get rid of some stuff so I can go out and buy new stuff.”
Children’s clothing and toys were the most popular items at different yard sales but furniture such as beds, sofas, chairs and tables could also be found.
“I am looking to buy furniture to help out my church,” said Jose Garcia, a life-long resident of El Paso. “We try to help people in our church who need beds, dressers and basic furniture.”
