PORTLAND, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on a draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impacts for a proposed dune augmentation project adjacent to the root of the South Jetty at Mouth of the Columbia River.

The purpose of the project is to prevent further foredune erosion and to minimize the risk of a breach of the foredune, Clatsop Spit and the South Jetty root. The foredune augmentation is one component of the preferred and selected alternative as described in the Environmental Assessment and Finding of No Significant Impacts for the larger suite of repair and rehabilitation actions of the MCR jetty system.

The draft supplement to the EA and FONSI addressing potential impacts associated with the activity is available for public review and comment on the Portland District website at www.nwp.usace.army.mil.

For questions or comments on the draft supplement to the EA and FONSI or to request a copy, call Barbara Cisneros at 503-808-4784 or e-mail Barbara.G.Cisneros@usace.army.mil. Comments also can be submitted by mailing them to: District Engineer, Portland District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Attn: Barbara Cisneros, CENWP-PM-E, P.O. Box 2946, Portland, OR, 97208-2946.

Comments must be postmarked by May 3, 2013, and should reference Public Notice Number CENWP-PM-E-13-04.
