FORT LEE, Va. - National Nutrition Month has come to an end, but the message of leading healthy lifestyles lives on.
The Defense Contract Management Agency Labor and Employee Relation Division promotes leading healthy lifestyles through wellness/fitness classes, various educational and support programs, and monthly newsletters.
“In this month’s newsletter, we encouraged employees to celebrate National Nutrition Month by including a rainbow of fruits and vegetables into their diets each day,” said Jami Zanetta, DCMA’s WorkLife and Wellness/Fitness coordinator. “Every day is a good day to eat healthy, but hopefully this month-long campaign helped our employees adopt healthier eating habits for good.”
National Nutrition Month started in March 1973 as National Nutrition Week and became a month-long observance in 1980 due to the public’s increased interest in nutrition. Today, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics – formerly the American Dietetic Association – launches the campaign every March to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.
In honor of the campaign, the LER Division held an office potluck featuring healthy foods and drinks.
“We felt we should lead by example since we are the proprietors of the WorkLife Program,” said Debbie Mitchell, LER Division chief. “The luncheon helped foster team-building, provided us with healthy and nutritious food, and great conversation along the way."
