Raleigh, N.C. - In recognition of the 105th birthday of the U.S. Army Reserves and its many contributions to the state and country, the North Carolina House of Representatives passed House Resolution 667 here April 16.

The resolution is a public proclamation honoring the Army Reserve’s commitment, dedication and service to America, and it pledges the state’s continuing support to its soldiers.

It also pays tribute to the memory of the Reserve soldiers who paid the ultimate price for freedom by giving their lives while serving their nation.

Army Reserve Ambassador Johnny H. Dwiggins, the current program manager for the Military Personnel Services Corporation, spearheaded the resolution in conjunction with N.C. House Rep. Tim Moore.

“We wanted to honor the Army Reserve birthday and thought this would be a great way to do it,” said Moore. “If we didn’t have a strong military with members who are willing to put aside their lives when the country needs them, we would not enjoy the freedoms we have.”

Shortly after the House opened for business the resolution was read out loud by the house reading clerk.

Then several representatives took turns standing up and showing their support for the resolution by sharing their military experience and explaining why supporting the Army Reserve is so important.

One of those who spoke was Rep. William “Bill” Brawley, who noted that North Carolina has over 15 reserve units fully staffed and ready to be called if the need arises.

He also spoke about their willingness to serve.

“When you see these soldiers in uniform, you see their unit patch, but on a lot of these folks’ right shoulder you will see another patch, it is the combat patch,” he said. “It means these people were willing to walk through fire and put their bodies between us and danger. That’s a true calling.”

After several representatives has expressed their support, the entire House stood to applaud soldiers from the U.S. Army Reserve Command and the U.S. Army Retention Command who were on hand for the ceremony.

The resolution was then voted on, and passed unanimously, by a vote of 112 to 0.

“We wanted this resolution on record to officially show our support and say ‘thank you’ to the thousands of Army Reservists who are juggling a family, a career and their military service,” said Moore. “I must also say thank you to the employers who allot them time off to serve.”

This resolution is the second recognition by the N.C. House of Representatives recognizing the U.S. Army Reserves and acknowledging the roles of N.C. citizen-soldiers among its ranks.
