KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan — Progress continues on construction of an Afghan National Civil Order Police Patrol Battalion compound and an adjacent Provincial Response Company compound in Kandahar province.

The ANCOP play a vital role in supporting the security and stability of Afghanistan and is the most respected and advanced police force among the multiple forces that comprise the Afghan National Police.

Once complete, the battalion compound will accommodate 500 police officers and the company compound will accommodate 125 personnel.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers project includes administration buildings, training buildings, dining facilities, senior personnel quarters, barracks, latrines and showers, including separate facilities for female personnel, guard towers, wells, vehicle maintenance areas, armories, wastewater collection and treatment systems, electrical generation and distribution systems, fuel points, roadways, sidewalks, and more.

An Afghan-owned and operated firm is responsible for the design and construction of the project with oversight by USACE. Several times a week, the USACE construction team conducts rigorous inspections of the construction site which help ensure quality, safety, and schedule performance in accordance with the Unified Facilities Criteria, International Building Codes, OSHA, Life Safety Codes and others.

“We want to make sure the project progresses on schedule, while simultaneously delivering a safe product constructed in accordance with the plans and specifications,” said USACE civil engineer, Jason Riharb, a contracting officer’s representative who deployed to Afghanistan from the Charleston District.

Construction is expected to be completed in May 2013 with occupancy in July 2013.
