SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - Friends and family gathered to recognize the efforts of six airmen who will be deploying to support CENTCOM Operations for a six month tour in the coming weeks.

A small group of friends and family gathered at the 158th Fighter Wing Fire Station Friday, March 29, 2013, for a ceremony to recognize the efforts of six Airmen who will be deploying to support CENTCOM Operations for a six month tour in the coming weeks.

Five of the airmen are firefighters and one airman is a CE Operations airman.

During the ceremony, each airman, who had not previously deployed, was presented with a blue star flag for their families at home, a small Green Mountain Battle flag and small U.S. flag.

The deploying service members were thanked for their service and for volunteering for the deployment by Col. Michael Morgan, Mission Support Group Commander. “There hasn’t been a day since 9/11 that we have not been actively engaged globally assisting our brothers and sisters in the active duty and reserve to get the job done,” said Morgan.

Morgan also called on service members here at home to take care of the families should a need arise, and asked the families not to hesitate to ask for help if necessary, no matter how small or large the problem may be.

Also in attendance was Maj. Gen. Steven Cray, the adjutant general, who read a letter from Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin, who could not be in attendance, thanking the Airmen and their families for their service.
