Courtesy Story
A media round table between Maj.Gen. Spiese, deputy commander, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Col. Taylor, commander, 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit Col. Kunni, commander, Western Army Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, will be held Feb. 11 from 1-2 p.m., aboard Camp Pendleton, Calif.
At the event, the three commanders will discuss and answer questions regarding Exercise Iron Fist 2013, a bilateral training exercise between the 13th MEU and JGSDF, designed to improve interoperability and develop skills necessary for effective contingency response.
I MEF forces have conducted similar training annually with the JGSDF since 2006 in Southern California. Effective bilateral training across the range of military operations and amphibious operations are common training interests for U.S. Marines and the JGSDF and support Theater Security Cooperation efforts, promoting military readiness in the Pacific Theater.
