KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – Task Force Corsair hosted the second annual Global War on Terrorism Trot, a 5k run, and chili cook-off for all International Security Assistance Force members, April 14.

The race gave 130 multi-national participants a chance for friendly competition and raised more than $300 for the Iron Mike Chapter of the Army Aviation Association of America scholarship fund.

Race winners were: best overall time, male, was 18 minutes and 43 seconds by British Cpl. Cobra Fairnington. Best overall time, female, was 19 minutes and 45 seconds by British Sgt. Diane Mitson. Best overall time, team, was 21 minutes and 16 seconds by Task Force Corsair, Alpha Company 2nd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery led by Army Capt. Jennifer Phelps.

GWOT Trots were also held simultaneously at Bagram Airfield, hosted by Task Force Pegasus, at Forward Operating Base Salerno, hosted by Task Force Desert Hawk, and in Iraq hosted by Task Force Lightning. The Iron Mike Chapter of AAAA will host the race at Fort Bragg, N.C., April 21.

TF Corsair commander, Army Lt. Col. Dan Huggins declared the GWOT Trot a success.

"The GWOT Trot was so successful and went off without a hitch because of the hard work and attention to detail that the NCOs (non-commissioned officers) and Soldiers displayed both when planning and executing the event," he said.

An awards presentation followed the race, as well as a reenlistment ceremony for Spc. Carlos Alvarenga, from the 82nd Airborne Division Special Troops Battalion and Spc. Alicia Seabrooks, from the 622nd Movement Control Team. The Kellog, Brown, and Root dining facility and Soldiers of Task Force-71, supplied enough chili, non-alcoholic beer and Gatorade for more than 200 people for the event.
