QUANTICO, Va. - Marine Corps Base Quantico held its Combined Federal Campaign Close Out Celebration and Award Ceremony at the National Museum of the Marine Corps on Jan. 9.

Units that demonstrated the best results in the four categories that helped contributed to the success of the CFC were recognized at the ceremony. The categories were best participation percentage, most donations raised, most improved performance and the spirit award.

Since Sept. 9, 2012, with a goal of $650,000, service members and DOD civilian aboard Quantico have been to contributing to the CFC. By the sixth week, units raised more than $100,000. At the end of the journey, units raised a total of $802,415.55 and exceeded their goal by 23 percent.

“Some of you volunteered for this duty and some of you were appointed,” said Col. David W. Maxwell, base commander. “It is clear that however you accepted this responsibility, your efforts were nothing short of outstanding.”

In the “best unit participation” category, the awards went to the Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate, who came in with 52 percent participation, the National Museum of Marine Corps, with 85 percent participation and Air Force Office of Security Investigation, with 37 percent participation.

When it comes to the most money raised in the small unit sections, the Command Group raised $12,075. For the medium unit sections, the Criminal Investigation Division raised $33,567.81. For the large unit sections, Marine Corps Systems Command raised $144,369.32.

“Being last year’s top contributor, we tried to surpass last years’ amount,” said Staff Sgt. Jelani Nix, lead key worker, MCSC. “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to meet that goal, but we still came out on top overall and it’s all for a good cause.”

The top units that had the most improved donation performance were Manpower and Reserve Affairs Headquarters with an increase of $2,793, Communications School with an additional $10,422 and the Defense Intelligence Agency with $9,719.34.

“The final award is presented to the unit that captured the essence or the spirit of the 2012 CFC season,” said Capt. Shanelle Porter, Quantico CFC chairperson. “They achieved the best results using all the tools and techniques of fundraising to maximize participation and contributed to the endeavor by exceeding all of our goals.”

The Spirit Award went to five agencies within the Russell Knox Building. Those agencies included the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Defense Intelligence Agency, Defense Security Service, Criminal Investigation Command and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. Not only did they have a 26.78 percent participation rate with more than 455 donors, they also raised $234,552 which is 29 percent of the total Quantico total.

“We had contributions from everyone, it was definitely and all-hands effort,” Maxwell said. “I hope that everyone had fun and I want to thank you all for all of your hard work.”
