    2d Cavalry Regiment

ROSE BARRACKS, Germany - The longest continuously serving active cavalry regiment in the U.S. Army held a change of command ceremony Jan. 8, at Rose Barracks, Germany.

Col. Douglas A. Sims assumed command of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment and Col. Keith A. Barclay relinquished his authority as the 76th commander of the Dragoons.

The regiment gathered afterwards for a reception at the 2CR’s Reed Museum to welcome back Col. Sims and his family.
Sims has served with the regiment in the past as a deputy commander and later as a squadron commander. He also deployed with the regiment in 2010 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

With three years of prior experience, Sims already has an established history with the regiment.

“Many of you know him as War Eagle Six, when he was the squadron commander of 1st Squadron and you can see from his bio he has a tremendous amount of combat experience in a wide array of Army units,” said Maj. Gen. James C. Boozer, deputy commanding general of U.S. Army Europe. “There is no other colonel in the army who knows this regiment better than D.A.”
Sims attributes his success, in the past, with the regiment to the actions of Troops who were under his command and looks forward to serving as the 77th colonel of the regiment.

“I am particularly grateful to the men and women of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, it was only because of their exceptional performance that I was able to succeed here as a squadron commander and from what I have seen, from afar, over the past year and a half the regiment continues to set the standard for excellence extremely high,” said Sims. “I’m excited to rejoin that team as we prepare for new adventures together.”

Boozer expressed his thoughts on the amount of wisdom Sims carries with him and there being no person better suited to step up and be the commander of the Dragoons.

“He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience and I can personally attest to his tremendous leadership abilities,” said Boozer. “There is no doubt he will take this great regiment even further than this unit already is.”
