INP, MND-B Soldiers Seize Weapons During Operation Together Forward in Southern Baghdad

BAGHDAD — Police from 8th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, working with Multi-National Division – Baghdad Soldiers, searched more than 980 buildings in southern Baghdad's Risalah neighborhood Saturday.
During the first day of the clearing operation, Iraqi Security Forces and MND-B Soldiers from 2nd Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, attached to 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, detained eight suspected terrorists and confiscated more than 30 weapons.
The police captured 10 AK-47 assault rifles, an RPK machinegun, a shotgun, five pistols, two rockets, two mortar base plates and a mortar tube.
Iraqi policemen also seized a 100mm artillery round, six 60mm mortar rounds, three fragmentary grenades, five rocket-propelled grenade launchers, 18 RPG rounds and various bomb-making materials.
During the security operations, INP and MND-B forces searched homes for illegal weapons and registered 96 private weapons in accordance with Iraqi law.
The cordon and search operation in Risala is part of a Government of Iraq directed mission to ensure peace and stability to the people of the Baghdad area.
Operation Together Forward is a joint effort between INP and its Coalition Forces partners from MND-B to enhance existing security conditions and reduce violence created by terrorists and death squads in Baghdad.
As part of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki's immediate mandate to restore peace to the city, Operation Together Forward involves more than 45,000 ISF and approximately 15,000 Coalition Forces.
