    Coalition forces in Iraq Kill Two, Detain 15

    WASHINGTON - Coalition forces killed two terrorists and detained 15 suspects during two days of operations to disrupt al-Qaida networks in northern and central Iraq.

    In operations in Iraq Feb. 28:

    Coalition forces detained three suspected terrorists in Mosul during operations targeting al-Qaida associates involved in suicide bombings, weapons facilitation and attacks against coalition forces.

    In Baghdad, coalition forces captured an alleged cell leader associated with the Karkh and Mansour al-Qaida networks. The suspect allegedly is responsible for high-profile kidnappings and assassinations in the region, including attacks targeting local citizens contributing to the security effort and is reportedly a close associate of numerous senior leaders in Baghdad. Three other suspected terrorists were detained during the operation.

    Coalition forces captured an alleged car-bomb facilitator for the al-Qaida network southwest of Mahmudiyah. The suspect reportedly is associated with several recently detained senior network leaders.

    Four suspects were detained this morning west of Taji and in Samarra during operations targeting alleged associates of a suspected weapons facilitator and the Anbar al-Qaida propaganda network.

    Coalition forces conducted an operation east of Samarra in Karwi, targeting an alleged al-Qaida associate involved in weapons smuggling, kidnappings and attacks against coalition forces. Three suspected terrorists were detained during the operation.

    In operations in Iraq on Feb. 27, coalition forces killed two wanted terrorists involved in facilitating foreign-terrorist and conducting attacks against coalition and Iraqi forces during operations in Mosul.

    Earlier, Soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division's Company A, 3rd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, uncovered a munitions cache containing live mortar rounds between 56 mm and 155 mm, and thousands of mortar shells. The unit, with the help of "Sons of Iraq" citizens aiding local security efforts, spent more than 26 hours digging up the cache.
