A member of the 96th Transportation Company, 1st Lt. Otto Vindekilde, native of Corpus Christi, Texas, assembles his rifle after his teammate completed the swimming portion of the triathlon event hosted by the 419th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. As soon as he finishes assembling his weapon, he will march a 5K for the second portion of the event.

Thanks were in progress after the 419th CSSB triathlon was complete. Many Soldiers from units within the 419th CSSB volunteered to help out during the event. Medics, lifeguards, road guards, and score keepers were some of the helpers that day. Lt. Col. Kristan L. K. Hericks, the 419th's battalion commander, presents a coin to Staff Sgt. Richard Higgens, a native of Washington, and noncommissioned officer for the 96th Transportation Co.

Keeping a long and steady stride throughout the 5K run, Rialto, Calif. native, Sgt. Michael Clark is on his way to finishing second place in the running portion of the triathlon put on by the 419th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion.

Enthusiastic participants wait for their teammates to put coins in their hats and helmets. The "mystery event" of the 419th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion's triathlon, was comprised of 419th Battalion coins, water, and an abundance of fun. Two members of each three-person team swam the girth of the pool until all 100 coins were retrieved.

On a sunny September morning, members from, and attached to, the 419th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion get ready to swim five laps, just the beginning of a triathlon hosted by the 419th. Wearing ACU pants and t-shirts, they got in the cool pool anticipating victory. Some have been swimming since their school days; others just started swimming during this tour in Iraq.

The race begins at the triathlon event hosted by the 419th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion. The Soldiers were to swim five laps and then hand off their relay "D-ring" (which had their event number attached) to the next competitor on their team in order to begin the next step in the competition. Pictured above, Spc. Mitchell Daugherty, a native of Athens, Ohio, and a member of Bravo Troop 2/107 Cavalry, is in the lead during the swimming portion of the event.
