A dead Leiurus Quinquestriatus, or Arabian fat-tailed scorpion, is displayed by Capt. Mike Bay, the executive officer of the 180th Medical Detachment Preventive Medicine Support Team. This is the most highly venomous of all scorpion species frequently encountered in Iraq. These can also be found on post but are not nearly as common as the Androctonus Crassicauda scorpion.

A live Androctonus Crassicauda, or yellow fat-tailed scorpion, is displayed at the 180th Medical Detachment Preventive Medicine Support Team. Its venom has killed 50 percent of lab mice that have been injected with its venom. These scorpions are commonly found at the aid station on Contingency Operating Base Speicher.

A variety of poisonous snakes and scorpions are on display at the 180th Medical Detachment Preventive Medicine Support Team entomology laboratory. These were all found on Contingency Operating Base Speicher and are still being studied.
