Staff Sgt. Christopher Demarsico, a gunnery sergeant with 2nd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), keeps a close eye on an Iraqi civilian while standing guard in front of the city council building in Ad Dujayl, Iraq. The artillery men from the 2-320th FAR began executing a full spectrum combat operation on June 18, dubbed "Operation Balls DiMaggio," which is aimed at deterring and limiting indirect fire attacks in vicinity of the Joint Base Balad Anaconda. Over the course of the 12 day operation, the "Redlegs" from the 2-320th will conduct 24 hour combat security patrols in an effort to solely protect the local population and the JBBA from enemy attacks. During Balls DiMaggio, the "Balls of the Eagle" battalion will assume the role of the 1st BCT's main effort; the full scale op is shaping out to be one of the largest operations the 2-320th has executed since being deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in September 2007.
