Special Troops Battalion Passes Torch

The transfer of authority ceremony held at Camp Taji Dec. 1 was brief, but significant. It marked the end of a15-month historic journey for the Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, out of Fort Riley, Kan., and the beginning of a one year mission for the 10th Sustainment Brigade Troops Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, out of Fort Drum, N.Y.

The Logisitics Crew of the 317th Maintenance Company Keep Supplies Flowing

On any given night in Baghdad, U.S. Soldiers transport supplies and equipment via military convoy from large compounds to forward operating bases. These convoys must be escorted by a convoy security element, and that role is shared by one platoon of the 317th Maintenance Company from Bamburg, Germany. These are Soldiers whose sole job is to escort and protect convoys filled with supplies from the dangers outside of the camp. It is a dangerous job, and the road to mastering the technique is a long and arduous journey.

Personal Security Detail Team on the Go

Although the Soldiers of the Special Troops Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, are nearing the end of a 15-month deployment, their mission is not yet complete and they are still going strong; especially the members of the brigade command team's personal security detail.

The 297th ICTC have been supporting Signal Company's movement throughout the deployment. The CRSP yard supports movement of goods in and out of Camp Taji.

Monsoon Season Comes to Troops Stationed in Iraq

For the past several weeks, Camp Taji and the surrounding area have experienced several flash floods due to sudden, intense rain showers. The weather seemed to change overnight from hot, sunny days to conditions requiring a jacket and possibly an umbrella. Streets that previously needed water trucks to soak the road to keep the dust down flooded, and drivers were barely able to see the road due to standing water.

1538th Transportation Company Soldier Serve Up a Piece of History

The Iraqi army opened a new chapter in its history recently with the beginning of the Iraqi army's first Sergeants Major Academy. The course brought together Iraq's most senior non-commissioned officers from around the country and around the services at the beginning of November for a 24-day session.

Building Relationships

Two Soldiers from the 1123rd Transportation Company, 1st Squadron, 152nd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Sustainment Brigade, are working to build a strong relationship with Iraqi army soldiers at the Taji National Depot, where they have been employed for the past three weeks.

We Make It Happen

The 398th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 1st Sustainment Brigade, arrived in Iraq in early September, eager to start their mission and take on the challenges ahead. Each individual shop conducted their mandatory transition process with their counterparts and was very anxious to start their mission. The 398th CSSB conducted their transfer of authority ceremony on Sept. 20, and since then, each section in the Battalion has made several improvements.

The Go-To Soldiers

Every unit has a group of Soldiers that a commander can count on to get any mission done. A group of these "Go-To" Soldiers can be found in Headquarters Platoon, Company G, 39th Brigade Support Battalion, which is currently deployed to Taji, Iraq.

Finance Stays Army Strong

In the past couple of months, four Soldiers from Detachment A, 24th Finance Company, re-affirmed their commitment to keeping the Army strong by re-enlisting for terms that range from four to six years.

Overcoming a Shortcoming

Mechanics assigned to the 377th HET Company, 165th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion out of Fort Bliss, Texas, work around the clock keeping the company's fleet of heavy equipment transporters well maintained and ready for every mission. The primary vehicles used by the 377th are the M1070 Tractors and the M1000 Semi-Trailers, which require extensive maintenance on a daily basis.
