Ted Lahti, first mate, 481st Transportation Company (Heavy Boat), 311th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, conducts Man-Overboard Devices check prior to the United States Army Vessel Palo Alto getting underway in Kodiak, Alaska, Aug 13. The crew of Army mariners, in partnership with U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy, recently completed support for the four-month inter-agency task force Innovative Readiness Training- Mertarvik by transporting personnel, equipment and supplies between various locations in order to help construct essential infrastructure to facilitate Newtok's relocation efforts. The Watercraft Unit, having vessels capable of handling shallower waters, has a unique and demanding mission to provide critical logistical support to all U.S. and coalition forces around the world.
