NC Air Guard honors fallen at anniversary of fatal crash

South Dakota Lt. Gov. Matt Michels, Army Maj. Gen. Greg Lusk, the adjutant general of North Carolina, center left, Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Andrew Huneycutt, center right, with other members of the official party unveil the Modular Airborne Firefighting System flight seven interpretive memorial on display near Edgemont, S.D., July 1. The display honors the North Carolina National Guard flight crew: Air Force Lt. Col. Paul Mikeal, Maj. Joseph McCormick, Maj. Ryan David and Senior Master Sgt. Robert Cannon. Two NCNG airmen, Chief Master Sgt. Andrew Huneycutt and Sgt. Josh Marlowe, survived the mission. More than 100 North Carolina National Guard airmen, soldiers, staff and supporters flew from the North Carolina National Guard’s 145th Airlift Wing’s Air Base in Charlotte, N.C., to honor and remember the crew.
