Brig. Gen. Mark Stammer, the Senior Mission Commander for the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, speaks at a groundbreaking ceremony June 13 at Fort Campbell, Ky. for the third in a series of nine National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE) Satellite Centers designed to diagnose and treat traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress. Stammer shared the importance of Fort Campbell Soldiers receiving this level of care when construction on the $11 million facility, the Intrepid Spirit III, is complete in approximately one year. According to their website (www.nicoe.capmed.mil), NICoE is a DoD institute dedicated to providing cutting-edge evaluation, treatment planning, research and education for service members and their families dealing with the complex interactions of mild traumatic brain injury and psychological health conditions. Stammer joined Soldiers who have received TBI treatment, other military leaders, including Gen. Robert Cone, the Commanding General for the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and Blanchfield Army Hospital Commander Col. Paul R. Cordts, as well as leaders from the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund at the groundbreaking ceremony.
