Pacific Partnership Ends Years of Darkness for Little Girl

Cmdr. Kenneth Kubis, director of surgical services for Pacific Partnership 2008, and U.S. Air Force Capt. Tighe Richardson, both assigned to the Military Sealift Command hospital ship USNS Mercy, use an operating microscope while performing cataract eye surgery to return sight to Marylin Kansi, a 12-year-old girl from Cotabato. The successful surgery has allowed Kansi to see light, shapes and colors for the first time in eight years. Mercy is anchored off the coast of Cotabato for supporting Pacific Partnership 2008.
