Ellie Hardwick, Law Enforcement Torch Run coordinator and Patty Finch of the Centralia, Wash., Police Department greet 2,700 Washington Special Olympics Summer athletes and their coaches as they kick off the "Flame of Hope" ceremony at Joint Base Lewis-McChord May 31. Each year the torch is carried by law enforcement officers from across the state to the Cauldron symbolizing the spirit of the games. JBLM has been the primary competition site of the Special Olympics Summer games for over 40 years. Representing the combined forces of Army and Air Force, I Corps Commanding General, Lt. Gen. Robert B. Brown attended the ceremony in recognition for the support offered to the games provided by troops each year.
