A patron of the Hancock Pool swims laps May 25 during the opening of the outdoor pools. Both Hancock Pool and Cedar Creek Pool will be open through Labor Day for recreational swimming.

  • Participants in the Cherry Point Sprint Triathlon sport time tracking anklets, standing on the pool deck before diving into the 400-meter swimming portion at the Hancock Pool aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Aug. 25. The tracking anklets precisely traced the racers as they swam, biked and ran through the approximately 13 mile course. A record turnout of more than 200 racers made up of Marines, sailors and members of the community came out for the annual Marine Corps Community Services event.
  • Competitors swim during the 400-meter swim portion of the sprint triathlon at the Hancock pool aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, N.C., Aug. 25. After completing the swim, the competitors had to complete a 10-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run.
  • 1st Lt. Chistopher Merrick, a KC-130J pilot with Marine Aerial Refueler Squadron 252, finishes the final portion of the Cherry Point duathlon. The Duathalon began with a three-mile run up and down Roosevelt Boulevard, beginning at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Hancock Pool Sept. 15. The more than 100 participants returned to Hancock Pool to board bikes for a 10-mile ride across the base and back. Dropping their bikes, the racers left nothing in their metaphorical gas tanks, pushing through a second three-mile run to complete the 16-mile course to the finish.
