Sailors assigned to the Arleigh burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) watch a Taiko drum demonstration performed by citizens of Shimoda City before a tug-of-war competition between Fitzgerald sailors and sailors from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ship JDS Murasame (DD 101). Fitzgerald and Murasame are participating in the 74th annual Black Ship Festival commemorating the 1854 landing of Commodore Matthew Perry and the subsequent opening of the Port of Shimoda to the western world.
