Marine veteran Capt. Rick Rush, from Coos Bay, Ore., prepares to serve the ball during sitting volleyball practice at Fort Carson, Colo., May 10 for the 2013 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo. Rush was hit by an improvised explosive device while riding in a Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle July 2010 in Afghanistan. He received shrapnel in his throat, right eye and shoulder. He also had a crushed larynx, broken left foot, a traumatic brain injury and was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Rush is competing in track and field, cycling, and sitting volleyball.
