'Jigsaw' dustoff transcends borders to save lives

Sgt. Elise N. Fournier, a Pennsylvania National Guard flight medic with Foxtrot “Jigsaw” Company, 1st Battalion, 169th Aviation Regiment, New York National Guard, Task Force Falcon, checks the monitor for a patient's vital signs during a patient transfer mission April 26 from Forward Operating Base Shuknavi to Camp Bastion in Helmand province, Afghanistan. "It's just like an ambulance in the air," said Fournier, who is an emergency medical technician in West Caldwell, N.J. Fournier and several of her fellow flight medics work with Afghan National Army medics and physicians out of Camp Dwyer, and have been developing nationwide emergency medical technician standard operating procedures. "We love doing it, and we know that helping today's medics and physicians will lead to tomorrow's saved lives," said Fournier.
