Lance Cpls. Joseph Fields and John Vloyanetes, amphibious assault vehicle platoon, Company K, Battalion Landing Team 3/2, 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), scan their surroundings aboard dock landing ship USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), while passing through the Suez Canal ahead of amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) April 5, 2013. The 26th MEU is currently deployed as part of the Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group to the 5th Fleet area of responsibility. The MEU operates continuously across the globe, providing the president and unified combatant commanders with a forward-deployed, sea-based quick reaction force.
