Soldiers and civilians salute as retreat is played at the end of the work day

Soldiers and civilians salute as retreat is played at the end of the workday March 4, 2013. Fort Hood transforms from a bustling garrison to a quiet and still monument twice a day: In the morning when the American flag is raised, and reveille is played, and in the evening when it is lowered and retreat is played. All traffic stops and Soldiers and civilians alike exit their vehicles to salute, facing towards the III Corps headquarters building, where the garrison flag pole is located. Speakers are spaced out on poles across the entire base so the bugle calls can be heard everywhere. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt. Ken Scar, 7th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment)
