Jeff Byers, Nation Football League's Carolina Panthers' center, performs a
hip toss with a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program instructor, Sgt. Brian O.
Braxton aboard Camp Johnson, N.C., March 6. The football star took part in
training, observed classes and ate evening chow in the mess hall with
several Marines. Byers talked to the Marines about his experience with the
NFL and how appreciative he is of service members. Byers visited troops
aboard base, joined in a physical training session and received the Camp
Johnson commanding officer's coin. Byers is the current ambassador for the United Service Organizations. Byers attended Loveland High School in
Loveland, Colo., where he was named the Gatorade player of the year in 2004
as the nation's top high school football player. Later, Byers attended the
University of Southern California and played for the Trojans. The Panthers
added Byers in 2011.
