Marines serving with 1st Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, fire a M777 Lightweight Howitzer in support of Exercise Steel Knight here, Dec. 13, 2012. The M777 howitzer is a towed 155 mm artillery piece that has an effective range of up to 25 miles. The battalion conducted this historic live-fire exercise, simultaneously utilizing the M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, M777 Lightweight Howitzer and Expeditionary Fire Support System. This is the first time all three artillery weapons systems were fired during the same exercise.
