Air Mobility Command responded to a Federal Emergency Management Agency request to move 637 short tons of supplies and equipment from southern California to New York aboard 12 C-17 Globemaster III and five C-5 Galaxy aircraft in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Hurricane Sandy formed in the western Caribbean Sea and affected Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and The Bahamas before making landfall in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States.
