Franklin Wharton, 3rd Commandant of the Marine Corps. The Marines placed a wreath to pay tribute to Wharton on the 237th Birthday of the Marine Corps, Nov. 10, 2012. He served from 1798 to 1818 and was the first Commandant to occupy the Commandant's House, Marine Barracks, Washington.
