Dan Buchanan, an aviator of the Airwave Glider, soars with colored smoke and streamers during the 2012 Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show, Oct. 12. Although Buchanan became paralyzed in a sporting accident, he still flies the glider with lighted wings at heights upward of 17,000 feet.
