Lance Cpl. Anthony L. Nelson, an aircraft rescue firefighter with Marine Wing Support Squadron 271, checks for breath from 2nd Lt. Ryan Collins, the MWSS-271 S-4 officer, during a training exercise at Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bogue, N.C., Sept. 14. In the event of a real crash, the firefighters have to keep the pilot and crew alive until emergency medical technicians can arrive on the scene. Having the whole squadron together for training helped work out kinks in coordination because the firefighters do not usually have to work alongside the emergency medical team.
