Staff Sgt. Howard Boyer, 455th Expeditionary Maintenance Squadron aircraft maintenance technician, adjusts the speed brake swivel on an A-10 Thunderbolt II during a seven-level inspection at Bagram Air Field, Afghanistan, Aug. 9, 2012. Each time an A-10 accomplishes 500 flying hours, the maintainers put the aircraft through a periodic maintenance phase which lasts approximately four to five days. During this time, the maintainers give the aircraft a complete overhaul, looking for foreign object debris, damage, cracked or worn parts. They also ensure that every section of the airframe is intact with each piece in place.
