Afghan government officials, regional elders and coalition representatives held a reintegration shura in the village of Dahane Sangu, Khas Uruzgan district, July 15. Samad, a former insurgent commander, led the shura in which 20 Taliban fighters registered their firearms with Afghan officials and renounced their affiliation to the insurgency. Registering firearms is a required step for the former insurgents to reintegrate under Afghanistan's Peace and Reintegration Program.
