Fort Carson engineers, fire fighters support Waldo Canyon Fire containment

Sgt. 1st Class Justin Payne, horizontal construction engineer, 576th Engineer Company, 4th Engineer Battalion, uses a Caterpillar D7F bulldozer to clear a firebreak during efforts to contain the Waldo Canyon Fire at the U.S. Air Force Academy, June 28, 2012. The engineers built the firebreak to prevent flames from moving from the academy into the residential area across the fence. During the first 72 hours of their mission, engineers cleared more than 12 miles of land.
