U.S. Army National Guard Staff Sgt. James Bates, a security force squad leader for Provincial Reconstruction Team Farah, gives instructions to his soldiers during a small-arms training session on Forward Operating Base Farah, Farah province, Afghanistan, June 26. During the training, soldiers will learn proper techniques for performing reloads and close quarters shooting. SECFOR is made up of National Guard infantrymen out of Alaska who are responsible for ensuring the safety of everyone assigned to FOB Farah.
