Katie McGowen, 16, hangs from a pull-up bar in Public Square, June 13, at Marine Week Cleveland, which ends, June 17. Female Marines achieve a maximum score on the flex-arm hang portion of the Marine Corps' physical fitness test by hanging for 70 seconds. McGowen exceeded that standard by hanging for 132 seconds. She immediately followed that with 10 pull-ups. The McGowen family traveled from Middle, Va., to attend Marine Week. Her sister is currently a poolee with the Marine Corps recruiting program in their hometown. Free public displays and demonstrations during Marine Week Cleveland serve as an invitation for the community to explore the tactical capabilities, as well as the ideals of the Marine Corps.
