Indiana has been paired with the Slovak Republic by the Department of Defense since 1994, through the State Partnership Program. The two militaries have exchanged troops, techniques and training procedures since. Indiana Guardsmen and Slovak troops are serving shoulder to shoulder in Afghanistan with the Operation Mentor and Liaison Team.
