Both projects have the potential to help improve the lives of the people of Afghanistan by creating qualified nurses and midwives and a stable supply of medicines and other medical supplies. The PRT works with the government of Afghanistan to improve infrastructure throughout the province.

The midwifery program will train 24 women from Kunar province in an 18 month long course on providing prenatal and post partum care to expectant mothers and their babies to decrease infant mortality rates. The Provincial Reconstruction Team - Kunar provided training modules that included charts and diagrams for the teachers to help aid the instructors better teach their students. The first class of students began in September 2009 and is the first program of its kind in the province.
