    War of 1812: New Orleans

    Capt. Faith Zimmerman, an assistant logistic officer with 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, receives a letter of appreciation for restoring the wrought-iron fence from Whitney Armentor, a board member of the Raintree Children and Family Services organization, New Orleans, April 20, 2012. The Marines repainted the fence as a community relations project as a way to give back to the community during their visit to New Orleans. The 26th MEU is currently providing support to the commemoration of the Battle of New Orleans. Starting through April and continuing through 2015, the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard will commemorate the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the Star Spangled Banner. The War of 1812 celebration with commemorate the rich Naval history and showcase the capabilities of today's Navy-Marine Corps team.
